Super Smackdown: Round 1, Day 8
It's 8:09 a.m. on Super Smackdown, the daily showdown between two pop culture figures, and it's time for another battle to commence.
If you're just joining the fun, you can learn more about the contest here. And don't forget to vote in yesterday's match between Emperor Palpatine and Saruman. When you're ready for our next battle, scroll down and cast your vote! Today's contest is the battle of the 'bots. Ready? Fight!
Borg vs. Cylons
In our most far-reaching battle, consider what might happen if the Borg Collective engaged the Cylons. Would the technologically advanced cyborg soldiers win the day, or might the self-replicating robot drones eventually overwhelm them? You be the judge! Post your answer (and rationale) in the comments. Voting for this fight concludes March 15.

The borg have energy weapons, personal shield, tractor beams, and matter transportation. They also have super nanomachine assimilation technology. Sure, the shields wouldn't do as much against the good ol' fashioned slug throwers the cylons favor (as borg shields can't deal with kinetic energy for some reason?), but their base stars would be torn apart by the borg.
First, they'd take the human type cylons (Number 6 all borged up, not as nummy. Still gonna be hot though, it is Number 6...), then the lesser ones. But, hell, that's just hacking at this point. And once they get unto a resurrection ship, well, Resistance is Futile after all.
The Cylons wouldn't be able to stop it. They're nukes would not do enough, fast enough. After awhile, the borg would just develope some defense against the "old fashioned" guns the Centurions use. In the end, a half dozens drones on a Base Star just wins.

I don't really have any logic to this one as I've never seen an episode of BG, so I have to give this to Borg. The cold unfeeling logic that they have just makes it hard to believe that any other race can defeat them. They're like cyborg Spocks.

I'm going to buck the trend and go Cylons here.
Initially, the Cylons would take a pounding. Borg technology would reign supreme if they got the drop on the toasters. But I expect the Cylons would quickly make a tactical, FTL retreat. Assuming the Borg lack the technology to track this jump, this buys the Cylons all the time they need to (a) build their forces, (b) form a new plan based on their initial encounter, and (c) determine a way to destroy the Borg's biological components, thus killing them.
The Cylons then either through reconnaissance or luck find the location of Unimatrix 01 and unleash their attack, swarming the Borg, who rely too much on their bulky cube ships for protection. A sufficient number of Cylon raider ships break through, storm the Queen's chamber and take her out, rendering the collective inert. The toasters then nuke the base before they come back online.
And that's that. Bye bye, Borg.

The Borg have great fundamentlas.
They Borg can adapt very quickly. I mean, they were able to blaock phasers within like 10 seconds.
AND the borg download the minds of those they capture. Thus they were able to defend against Riker's techonbable attack in Best of Both Worlds.
But, the Borg have been around for so long, and been worked over by so many writers, taht they have loads of security holes.
1. You could pull a Picard, and use inside knowledge to know what to target (kinda difficult if you're an un-assimylatable machine thought
2. You could use organic technology, as specias 12345 or whatever did
3. You could introduce a malicious virus, as was contemplated by Picard with Hugh.
4. You could kill the stupid Queen (Worst character/retcon EVER)
To my knowledge, the Cylons, being the sole antagonist in BSG, are not so monkeyed around with.

I have to go with the borg on this one. The cylons are outclassed technology wise, and are also greatly outnumbered. The borg have taken over thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of star systems, they're the zombies of the star trek universe, there is no end to them. That and adaptable shield and energy weapons I have to give this to the borg.

Yeah...I gotta go Borg too. The whole assimilation thing is pretty powerful, not to mention the whole fact that it's been successfully implemented on several star systems.
Now the real battle should be: 7 of 9 vs. Number 6.
Hawt.

It's Emily2 btw.
So where do we buy the tickets to 7 of 9 vs. Number 6?
:)
Anyway, I'm torn. The assimilation -- borg-wise-- is not something to disregard, but I think there's something to be said that even though the Cylons die, they get all the information from that Cylon's experience, ready to go again. This is why Scar was such a bad-ass. I'm torn.
